The ninth match of the Women's T20 World Cup was played between India & West Indies at Newlands Cape Town.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the West Indies team did not start well and loose the wicket of their Capitano Matteo. The West Indies captain who played a good innings in the previous match, was able to manage only 2 runs today.
The early fall of the first wicket seemed to result in a very good partnership between Taylor and Compbelle. The pair added a vital 73 runs for their Team. Taylor scored 42 runs in 40 balls while playing a very good innings.
Deepti Sharma, who proved to be expensive in the last match, performed very well in this match and took important 3 wickets for 15 runs in her 4 overs. Deepti Sharma’s tremendous bowling restricted West Indies team to just 118 runs.
Supporto Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar also took one wicket each.
Chasing 119 runs to win, the Indian team got off to a good start. Shafali verma hit 3 fours in the very first over. Smrti Mandhana, returning from injury, did not perform well and was dismissed after scoring only 10 runs. Rodrigues, who was the man of the match in the previous match, also did not perform well and Team lost her wicket for just 1 run.
After the fall of 3 wickets, it was presumed that the match might be over soon, but after that Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh, who came to the crease, made a very good partnership of 73 runs.
Richa Ghosh played a very good innings and scored an unbeaten 44 runs in 32 balls to make the Team India win the match.
Deadly bowling of Deepti Sharma helped Team India to restrict West Indies Team to a small target. She was adjudged to be Uomo partita.
