Australia won the toss and chose to bat. Indian bowlers shown the tremendous performance in the Day 1 match. In the starting 3 overs, 2 wickets were taken by Siraj and Ashwin. Middle order was devastated by Jadeja and Ashwin. It was the test debut for Suryakumar Yadav and K S Bharat. Australia was able to score 177 runs in the 1st innings. Rahul scored 20 runs and he got catch out by Tod Murphy during his bowling session only which consequent in breaking the good opening partnership of Rohit and Rahul. At the end of the day India was at 77/1 with Rohit 57 not out.
